This training course will give you the skills and knowledge required to provide First Aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, in a range of situations, including in the home, workplace or within the community, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

This course is designed to give you the confidence to help those who suffer sudden injury or illness in the workplace, home or wherever you are.
The skills and knowledge in this program are relevant for any member of the general public as well as workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Key concepts covered include:

  • Provide advanced First Aid
  • Treatment of specific advanced conditions
  • Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
  • Recognising, and managing an emergency situation until emergency services arrive
  • Recording casualty condition and completing workplace incident documentation

HLTAID011 Provide first aid is the national first aid course required by all workplaces, and replaces courses are previously known as Level 2 and Senior First Aid. This course is the minimum first aid course for any first aider in the workplace or other settings.

In addition, people who receive this certification will also be required to complete annual Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation renewal training.

The course includes HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (including defibrillation) and HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support.

Provide First Aid course includes the most up-to-date basic life support principles including:

  • CPR and defibrillation for adults and infants
  • Breathing emergencies including Asthma and Anaphylaxis or severe allergic reaction and choking
  • Fractures, Dislocations, Sprains and Strains
  • Head, Neck and Spinal Injuries
  • Burns
  • Stroke and Diabetes
  • Seizures
  • Temperature induced illness
  • Bites and stings
  • Poisoning and toxic substances
  • Legal issues surrounding first aid
  • Infection control & reporting
  • Allergic reaction
  • Non life threatening and life threatening bleeding
  • Minor wounds
  • Nose bleed
  • Cardiac conditions including chest pain
  • Eye injuries
  • Sharps injuries

To successfully complete this course, you must:

  • 14 to 17 years learners must email or bring signed under 18 years consent form
  • Have Literacy skills to read and interpret statutory signage, warning signs and instructions regarding the use of first aid and CPR materials such as face shields, and Automated External Defibrillators.
  • Have the ability to complete a workplace Incident Report.
  • Have numeracy skills to perform simple calculations with regard to the rate of chest compressions and rescue breathing.
  • Have a level of oral communication that enables them to make accurate verbal reports to emergency response services and workplace supervisors.
  • the physical ability to meet the following evidence requirements:
    • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and breaths) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
    • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and breaths) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface

You also have to be able to complete the online learning and assessment section of the course. However, if you do not have access to or lack confidence in using a computer and/or the internet you can contact our office and make arrangements for the access and support you require.

Participants under the age of 18 are required to provide a consent form completed by their legal guardian.

Due to the current Coronavirus outbreak, our organisation has implemented steps to increase our already well-established infection control measures during training courses.

As your training will be undertaken in a group environment, the following conditions of enrolment are applicable.

    1. You must not attend any training session unless it is essential for you to do so
    2. You must not attend any training session if you have flu-like symptoms
    3. You must be clear of any flu-like symptoms for 14 days before attending any training session
    4. You must not attend any training session if you have travelled to a high-risk area or been in contact with a COVID-19 infected person in the past 14 days
    5. If you have recently returned from overseas, please consult the information provided by The Australian Government, Department of Health

During your training course, please use our handwashing facilities regularly and make use of the hand sanitiser, disposable gloves and alcohol wipes located at each facility.
