This CPR course will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain breathing and circulation in an adult, child or infant following cardiac arrest. Content is based on the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines.

Key concepts covered include:

  • Covers the knowledge and skills required to provide CPR
  • Manage and assess an emergency situation
  • Use an automatic external defibrillator (AED) 
  • Understand DRSABCD and the First Aider’s legal responsibilities

This course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively perform CPR and use defibrillation on a casualty who has stopped breathing. Not only suitable for those needing a CPR certificate for work, but anyone interested in learning these lifesaving skills.

HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is a Unit of Competency that provides the skills and knowledge required to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This CPR update course is the most recent version of what is often referred to as the CPR Update or CPR Refresher. This Unit replaces the previous course codes HLTCPR201A, HLTCPR201B, HLTCPR211A and most recently HLTAID001.

This course includes defibrillation (AED) training, there is no longer a stand-alone defib course.  So if you require AED training this is the course you should complete.

Online learning and assessment (up to 1 hour to complete)

The online video learning component allows you the time and space to learn and complete theory assessment at your own pace, when and wherever you want! Actual duration of this component will vary depending on your past experience and knowledge. You will need access to a computer and the internet to complete this part of your course. If this is difficult for you, we can arrange access for you – just give us a call!

You must have successfully completed the online assessment prior to attending the practical face to face component of the course.

Face-to-face practical session (2 hours duration)

This face-to-face practical session gives you the opportunity to learn the applied skills, practice them and receive trainer feedback and then complete assessment tasks.

To successfully complete this course, you must:

  • 14 to 17 years learners must email or bring signed under 18 years consent form.
  • Have Literacy skills to read and interpret statutory signage, warning signs and instructions regarding the use of first aid and CPR materials such as face shields, and Automated External Defibrillators.
  • Have the ability to complete a workplace Incident Report.
  • Have numeracy skills to perform simple calculations with regard to the rate of chest compressions and rescue breathing.
  • Have a level of oral communication that enables them to make accurate verbal reports to emergency response services and workplace supervisors.
  • The physical ability to meet the following evidence requirements:
    – Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and breaths) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
    – Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and breaths) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm Surface.

You also have to be able to complete the online learning and assessment section of the course. However, if you do not have access to or lack confidence in using a computer and/or the internet please contact us and make arrangements for the access and support you require.

Participants under the age of 18 are required to provide a consent form completed by their legal guardian.

Due to the current Coronavirus outbreak, our organisation has implemented steps to increase our already well-established infection control measures during training courses.

As your training will be undertaken in a group environment, the following conditions of enrolment are applicable.

    1. You must not attend any training session unless it is essential for you to do so
    2. You must not attend any training session if you have flu-like symptoms
    3. You must be clear of any flu-like symptoms for 14 days before attending any training session
    4. You must not attend any training session if you have travelled to a high-risk area or been in contact with a COVID-19 infected person in the past 14 days
    5. If you have recently returned from overseas, please consult the information provided by The Australian Government, Department of Health

During your training course, please use our handwashing facilities regularly and make use of the hand sanitiser, disposable gloves and alcohol wipes located at each facility.
